Re•sent•ment

The act of hating – no, fucking loathing Dean Collins. (Yes, I’m well aware that’s not the actual definition, but it might as well be . . .)

It’s been ten years since we've seen each other and the feelings are still as strong.

I’m not going to bore you with all the details of how our love was once intoxicating, consuming, and perfect.

Because it was . . . until it wasn't.

I've been fine without him. I haven’t missed his cruelty, his coldness and his spite.

And after the ugliest breakup in the history of breakups, I forced myself to move on.

Year by year, the feelings I had for him slowly drifted away, but one encounter with him recently changed everything. One encounter made me realize how the heart doesn't forget shit, and how my mind is going to have to work overtime to make sure I never forget my definition of resentment.

Promising but....UTTERLY DISSAPOINTING !!
By Alexdo
UGH!! How to start a review for a book that promised to be funny, romantic, entertaining and a light lecture but ended up just making me upset?
Boy (Dean) meets girl (Mia)...girl tries to keep away from boy because he is the most popular, hot guy in high school and girls just fall at his feet....He pursues her. A friendship and passionate romance develops, everything seems to be great and then all of a sudden with no explanation, he starts acting like a complete AS**H**E, openly humiliates her and then let rumors run saying she is a 'slut'. Obviously at this point she is devastated and the last weeks of high school are a nightmare but she survives......fast forward to 10 years later... they meet again...She moves in with her brother who she has not seen in many years and just keep in touch by phone and get this, Dean is nonetheless than her brother's roommate and BFF, so they end up sharing the same apartment, he brings other women to same apartment, he is a bigger douchebag than before, they argue, they end up having sex for some time without talking about the past until Mia decides it is time to talk. She asks him for an explanation of what went wrong and his reasons are just RIDICULOUS!!! ...His father beats him and nobody knows, so he feels alone and instead of confiding in the one person he says understands him completely he decides to better destroyed her...WTF?!! and okay I understand that when you are young you make stupid decisions or your actions can be lacking but after 10 years you keep blaming someone else for something they did not have a part in it?? ....Grow up already! HE owed her big, big apologies not just that lame letter he gives her. SHE needs more self respect because no matter how much you love someone you have to love yourself first.
In my opinion, I feel the author started with a good idea, first half of the book was good, the second part I wanted to like but end up hating it! specially the very last 2 chapters..HATE IT...if she keeps writing I hope she portrays women with more confidence in themselves and life.

I Really Wanted to Like This Book...
By Bewaji
I really wanted to like this book because it has all the ingredients I love in NA genre. A swoon worthy all American high school quarter back, very good at what he does, gets all the girls, etc etc. Of course he wanted the only girl not falling down at his feet to get his attention, that kind of a thing. He gets the girl, everybody envy and admire them. They are a golden couple. It won't all be cut and dried, there will be trials, temptations, and tribulations. The one in this book was plain asinine. The boy of course really openly humiliated this girl.

Dean, not only stood her up on prom night, he took another girl, and there was open kissing and groping, and he wanted Mia and the whole world to see it. As if that was not enough, there was a rumour about Mia being a slut, when he was asked, he openly confirmed it. So, for the rest of the final weeks in the school Mia was openly ridiculed and humiliated by the whole school. We all know how cruel teenagers can be.

The hero's excuse for this when they met 10 years later? Wait for it......He was being beaten black and blue by his Dad and his girlfriend did not know, or do anything about it! By this time I was royally mad reading this book. I continued with it because I wanted to know his reasons for humiliating Mia. Not that he has changed, he was still a manwhore, still rude and a douche bag. The author also left the ridiculous excuse till towards the end of the book.

The heroine did not help herself either. Despite the fact that he brings women home, and even asked her if it hurts to see him with these women, like in your face thing, she started having sex with him not soon after. Even though he did not give her a reason for what he did in the past, she was still 'stupid-to- the-d' letting him touch her. Idiotic.

Also, he is supposed to be a police man, yet he has enough money to buy almost all her art work. He ended up not playing football, his dad ended up broke because of that, and we don't know how that situation was resolved. Some things don't add up at all in this book. The main characters were not likeable, their behavior, even as adults was juvenile.

I know this is the first book for this author, that's why am giving it 2 stars, otherwise it will be 1 star.

Unsure how to write my feelings for this but will give it a go-
By ash
Ok so as a debut novel it is well written and engaging with good characters that you can feel (in my opinion). I read a lot of reviews, as I always do before I decide to read a novel, and I have a bad habit of only writing reviews for books that affected me in some way. If I was indifferent and/or didn't love or have any emotion toward it I don't write. As a result I tend to have too many 5 star reviews of my books I chose to read. I'm not sure this effects the way people review my reviews or not I just felt it necessary to explain here. That being said this book deserves a review in my world.

This is a love/hate book, you will love parts and hate parts, and then you will not understand parts unless you can really relate to the reason behind certain behaviors. With that said I hate when someone puts down a book because they don't understand and cannot relate to the events in a story. I will leave it at that cause I try not give spoilers, I just want to leave you with my honest feelings about the books I read.

Resentment is a story of two people who are very much alike but very different. They hold similar struggles in life but in very different ways. They handle these struggles in completely opposite ways which causes a lot of grief between the h and h. It is a good if not great debut with strong characters and good story line. I would recommend as a great read and look forward to what this author brings us in the future.
