OK, but

This is the closest thing we have to an up-to-date survey of Hellenistic Art, but while it has virtues (it is short, clear, and with good pictures) it isn't really authoritative. The alternatives are Pollitt (from 1986, brilliant and exhaustive), and R.R. Smith (1991) which is nothing special. You would think that, given the extraordinary rise in interest in the period, and the discoveries of the last 30 years, that there would be a great big book or exhibition catalogue (for a dream exhibition?) that would be out there.

It is worth noting that, while the book is published by the Getty Museum, the book is not focussed on their collection, but ranges widely.

I was afraid to write too much for fear people wouldn't stop to read it.  Wow. There was so much more than I expected in this book. I have looked for years for solid answers about applying for jobs. This situation is made worse because of all the questionable information online…what’s good? What’s not?

 Well this book definitely sets the record straight. What immediately stands out is the book says everything I know I'm supposed to say…it just says it better than I could in any of my attempts. The sections on emotions and confidence are so original and so powerful, it almost falls in the category of “I gotta see it to believe it.” It literally changed how I see the world.

 I know that people like to throw out book suggestions to make themselves seem really smart or interesting, but this book stands out because it explains so many things in an easy to read way that really makes sense. A tool rather than airy bland bullet points from some random website on what you “ought” to do.

I am a Career Services Professional…this book is a 10/10.

Based on all of the online ‘hype’, I took a chance and picked up a copy of this book. Being out of work, I had already applied to a couple of jobs, but I was getting no responses. Like zero. Following the book’s suggestion, the first thing I did was ‘borrow’ a couple of thank-you note examples and sent them off. And the very next day I get a call to interview, and I’m like “what the…”

Even with a B.S. degree in Social Work and years of experience helping countless others with job placement, I felt totally frazzled now being the one having to ‘go out there’ and get a job. Day one, I receive the book in the mail and its paid off within 24-hours. So on Wednesday I went in to my interview, and fortunately I studied the Q&A and negotiating salary section…that saved me when the subject turned to money. He asks, “how much did you get paid at your last job?” and I responded with exact same answer I memorized straight out of the book and not only did I avoid that classic trap, I actually ended up bumping up my hourly.

Yesterday (Thursday) I received my job offer. Started working today :) Thank you Hans, your book got me hired.

AMAZING... IT WORKS!!

It Is with great pleasure that I put my voice on paper! After spending many years working in an entry level position, working hard with no reward in return, it was like I showed up, clocked in, and clocked out, without my presence being felt or heard. I wanted more. I wanted a career but my confidence had been stepped all over for so many years! my boyfriend had read this book and was amazed! He strongly encouraged me to read this book and after reading it, he said my life would change drastically, and it did! An Administration position opened up, now never in a million years would I have ever applied, however after studying Hans's material, I realized that I have been settling for so many years and that I deserve more, to be heard, I deserve to install my voice in the professional world. I followed all the steps that the book talked about, and you know what? One morning I woke up and was a new person, I felt like I was a BOSS!! I felt that no matter what, I would be able to succeed and my mental state took its path that led me to obtain a career that not only pays me WAY more than what I was paid before, but has led me to be recognized by all my colleagues and most importantly I have left an imprint into our company's values and objectives. I now have a stable and promising career as a Workflow Analyst at a major hospital in California!
I highly recommend this book "Interview Like A Boss" to anybody who strives for success and more importantly to those who struggle to live life due to obstacles that have been placed before them!

Originally published in 1966, Mother Mother I Feel Sick Send for the Doctor Quick Quick Quick by Remy Charlip and Burton Supree, has been re-illustrated by Charlip, with silhouette paper cut-outs against a background of Victorian wallpaper. This visual treatment gives the story about a beach ball-shaped boy with a stomach ache a nostalgic look sophisticated enough to lure modern readers. As the doctor removes each item from the boy's stomach (a parasol, a bicycle, etc.), they appear in full color on the opposite spread, and the boy gradually returns to his natural size and shape.

Hold the book up for the story-hour crowd, though, and its magic still shines through. An appended note explains how to perform the rhyme as a shadow play. Please bring this book back in print

Dear publishing industry: Someone please bring this wonderful story back into print! I would buy multiple copies for the library where I work and my personal library at home.

Dear readers: This is a clever, funny story. You can increase your fun by turning it into a shadow play and acting it out. Someone can lay on the floor behind a white sheet and another person can pretend to be the Doctor and pull all sorts of silly objects out of the patient's belly.

A familiar book

I chose this book because I have had prior experience dramatizing it (as a play)
with 1st graders. It lends itself to creativity, for example, whatever objects
children (actors) brought to use as swallowed objects, the nurse or doctor (child)
thinks of something to rhyme in a surprised/horrified comment as they bring it into
view. Fun.

Hard to find books

I wanted a copy of this book to give to a friend who works in a children's hospital. It is hilarious and encourages the child to tell the story or even act it out. Amazon did a great job of locating the book which is currently out of print.

I pre-ordered one copy, devoured it, then ordered two more copies for my colleagues. This is not your typical guide-to-sales book. It includes tools to help you TAKE ACTION quickly. The templates provided for goal achieving plans, best questions guide and how to create a sales process scorecard are just a few of the tools provided that any company/any team would find beneficial. Awesome Sales Resource to Improve Your Selling, Sales Process, and Implement For Your Team

I was able to get my hands on an early copy of this book after our co-founder went to a conference jack spoke at in AZ.

This book is absolute gold so far. Speaking from a startup where we are putting these processes in place this has been a huge resource. It covers everything from start to finish of your sales process and how to implement/practice with the team. I am an Account Exec looking to move into a Sales Manager Role and this is a perfect balance between fine tuning your selling skills, defining your sales process, and managing a sales team.

Awesome side note - I was reading this book on a Sunday and was having trouble accessing the additional content since I had an early copy. I called the support number and Dan personally answered. He took time to answer some questions specific to my sales process and personally emailed his tech guy to get me what I needed!!!

And as demonstrated by Immer, who went from debentures to de Rothschild when she quit Morgan Stanley to eventually oversee the 50,000-bottle cellar at Manhattan's famed Windows on the World, the leap from pigeon to Pichon-Lalande is analogous: teaching novice wine drinkers what to expect is what her book, aptly subtitled "Straight Talk from a Master Sommelier", is all about.

A Wine-Oh Book for us Wine-Don't-Knows

This book is about the fifth or sixth book on this subject I have purchased in recent years. It's the first one that speaks to me like the novice I am. It's direct, it's easy reading, it's simple to follow, and it tells you what you need to know to be comfortable ordering wine in a restaurant, or buying it in a store. It's not full of high-brow rhetoric thrown in to impress the reader. It's entry level stuff -- information that you don't have to be a connoisseur to understand. For me, since I like wine but have no interest in becoming some sort of wine snob, this book gave me exactly what I needed to have a handle on what I'm buying. As far as what wine goes with what, and how it is served, it's all in there. If you want to get up to speed in layman's terms, this is the book to get. I thank Immer for writing it. A sommelier I'm not; I'm just a consumer who wanted a basic understanding of the subject, and I got it from this book... finally.

Want to increase your enjoyment and knowledge of wine?

If so, you should seriously consider buying this book for yourself, and for any friends who might have the same goal. I have enjoyed wine for a number of years, but have not ventured forth much from the cabernet-merlot-chardonnay rut because it all seemed so overwhelming. You go to the wine store and signs give wines different points from different people for wines you've never heard of and can't pronounce.
Enter Andrea Immer, the sassy and straightforward Master Sommelier! Immer makes wine approachable, fun, and stimulating. Through a variety of different techniques (comparison tasting, old world wines vs. new world wines, flavor maps, and varietal information) Immer will open up your wine world and give you the confidence to sally forth to your local wine shop and ask for a Gruner Veltliner (she also tells you how to pronounce it!)to go with your chicken dinner. She also totally demystifies the restaurant wine list and tells you how to make good and economical choices from it.
There is no pretention at all in this book. Ms. Immer is not a wine snob, nor does she make wine into some obscure chemical and gastronomical science. She knows her stuff so well she can make is simple for you, me and everybody else who would like to buy a $10 bottle of wine and find it is reasonably tasty.
By the way, friends much more expert than myself have confessed that they bought the book and found a great deal of information that was helpful to them, too, so this book is not just for wine beginners.

Don't buy it in Kindle version

I hope that this is the first and the last time that I write a review for a book before reading it in it's entirety. Actually I feel that I have to prevent other people from buying it in Kindle version. Reason?! Text of the book which is, I have to admit by now, extremely well written and nicely presented, is at the same time frequently followed by tables and lists with comparisons which are almost illegible in Kindle version. Option to zoom the page doesn't help either while text in tables is rather pale and can cause you only frustration and eye fatigue. By now I would have given 5 stars for the content and 1 star for how it is packaged. Seriously, everyone who bought this product via whisper-net should be reimbursed because none deserves to pay almost 19$ to get effectively 80% of the clear original content and 20% of reading frustration. Unfortunately I had no luck to be warned by someone else before buying the product. Do what you like but spare your money and DO NOT BUY IT IN KINDLE VERSION!!

Essential Reference of Spanish-Colonial Coin Collectors

If you are interested in Spanish-Colonial coins and cobs, this book is essential. The book was published in 2002, which means prices are not current. However, it's the detailed descriptions, photos, and history of the coins that makes it so valuable. Even Krauses most recent coin books don't have current prices. And unlike Krauses other guides, this one covers all dates for all coins, up until approximately the date each country gained it's independence from Spain.

No Philippine coins

Contrary to what is stated in the editorial review, this catalog does not include Philippine coins during the spanish colonial period. In fairness to the authors it is stated in the foreword that this catalog deals with Ibero-American coinage. Aside from that omission, this book is worth buying in the sense that if all you collect is Spanish/Portugese Colonial Coins you won't have to buy the Other Standard Catalogs that are divided into centuries as this catalog spans the entire timeline.

Needs an update, improved photography and a new printer

647 pages of dated information. The book is formatted much like the Red Book. Published in 2002, it's pricing would be as valuable as a 2002 Red Book, i.e. not very useful in a 2013/14 market. The quality of print is significantly substandard and many of the photographs are of poor quality. This may be due to limited availability of high quality photographs, but is an area that needs work. I am a neophyte researcher in this arena, but it does appear that a significant amount of the information is inaccurate, particular mintage numbers. If Krause could update the book to reflect the current market, improve the photography and find a decent printer the tome would be of much greater value.
