About the Author

Good - but could be better

Overall the entire series of books by Mike Tooley are excellent learning material for the EASA Part 66 avionics exams.

My sticking points are the number of errors in both the text (bidirectional is two ways, not one way) and the errors in the answers to the mulitple choice questions. If you can read between the errors and understand the correct answers to the MCQ then the book is good way to study.

I have tried looking for errata sheets for any of the series but so far I have had no luck.

Just the right level for what I wanted

I have an MSEE, but really know nothing about avionics. Therefore this was a quick study, because I was already very familiar with the basic concepts (of how radios work, digital electronics, etc). I learned a lot and got out of it what I was looking for. (In the wake of the MH370 disappearance, analysis of electronics was a central news issue and I was looking to get some background on that.)

I also have an interest in the history of technology. While this book is not about that, when I dug into the background of MSK modulation, for example, it traced back to some very interesting history. There are a lot of legacy technologies in modern aircraft.

I can't rate the book for how well it relates to certification testing, since I am not using it for that. It does seem thorough however, and if I was in this process I would at least add it to my "arsenal of knowledge."

Well structured book

I needed to come up to speed on the subject fast for work. Just needed a broad overview. This fit the bill well. Looks like it is out of print. Too bad; this was a well organized book on the subject. Could use an updated version with modern satellite navigation chapters.

"This is the book that will set you straight as to which zombie movies are “factually” spot-on and which ones will get your ass killed if you believe them. Fun fact: zombies generally don’t run, but the freshest of the newly-turned will be much quicker than those already beginning to decompose. It is this kind of myth-building that will be the most interesting to zombie buffs, and which raises the book above a mere novelty and adds a storytelling dimension, like a documentary-style horror film that uses the conventions of nonfiction film to add a layer of realism. Not that the book is a narrative story in any traditional sense, nor is it scary in any way. It’s a tongue-in-cheek, strictly-for-entertainment coffee table book, not meant to be devoured zombie-style, but casually consumed in bite-sized chunks. That said, it’s awfully hard to put down once you’ve started. That it is rich in backstory will come as no surprise to anyone familiar with Sean T. Page’s other work. Prior to this manual, he has released two other zombie apocalypse preparedness handbooks, and a number of zombie-themed short stories and novels. This is someone who has spent a lot of time contemplating a ghoul-infested end of times. The Zombie Survival Manual is a bit of a departure for Page, not thematically, of course, but in format. This Haynes Manual is heavily illustrated with infographic-style vector art and diagrams perfectly suited for the medium he is imitating." - From Midnight With Love

About the Author

Sean T Page is a self-proclaimed zombie survivalist. His degree from the London School of Economics has given him the skills and confidence to advise government and other public bodies on what to do in the event of a zombie apocalypse. He launched the Ministry of Zombies in 2009 and has published The Official Zombie Handbook and War Against the Walking Dead.

Great book for zombie ;loving kids

Everything about this book appealed to my 11 year son who got it for Christmas.The amount of detailed content, well written and also amusing, the themes and the layout,design and illustrations are excellent.
We live in Austria and my son is growing up in a bi-lingual, German/English, household. Sometimes getting him to read English books is difficult, regardless of theme.This is not a problem with this book, he has his head in it all the time and is now writing and illustrating his own zombie comic strip and stories while continuing to read the book.A recommended buy !.

Yep...ANOTHER Zombie Survival Book...

With all the zombie survival books to choose from, I think it's important to point out what makes this book stand out from the rest.

First of all, Page's Zombie Survival Manual from Hayes is very detailed without being overwhelming. Many other survival books are so difficult to get through, it would be easier to take on an undead horde with your bare hands. This manual is much easier to navigate.

Next, it's entertaining without lowering itself to cheesy humor. It's like a cross between an RPG guide and an Ology book (ex: Dragonology). There's even a test at the end, and a couple of certificates that you can hang up in your doomsday shelter.

Last but not least, Page is not someone jumping on the zombie bandwagon. He is an excellent horror writer, but his specialty is writing survival manuals. He has created a subgenre of his very own. Check out his Alien Invasion Owners' Resistance Manual, if you require more proof. Page ALWAYS does an incredible amount of research for his books.

There is a strong British influence within this book, but it is applicable to most countries. I definitely recommend Page's manual to my fellow zombiephiles, regardless of your Z-plan.

A must have for your zombie nonfiction section.

It isn't often I find myself in agreement with the other reviewers of a book. There is only one thing that could be improved about this book - it could be longer. Not that there is a shortage of information, "Zombie Survival Manual" by Sean T. Page is a fun read and over far too quickly.

The way the book is designed and written is a hoot. From the illustrations, which are far better than any Haynes manual I've ever read, to the little details, the hand print smudges which are in every Haynes manual I've ever read. This book is a testament to what is right and fun about zombie literature.

If you have your zombie books sorted by fiction and nonfiction, as I do, "Zombie Survival Manual" by Sean T. Page demands space on your bookcase.

the best book i've ever read

this book was a great and educational book for all teenagers.
this taught me about puberty and what I'll be going through when i hit puberty. This is also a very funny book and is the best book i have ever read. It teaches you a lot of things about drugs, sex life, hangovers and more. I personaly recommend this book for your child or if whoever is reading this is a child I would recommend it to them. I also would think parents would love it because they would think it was funny and think that it has given very good information for there child reading it. THIS BOOK RULES!!

This book showed up in my school library when I was 12, over ten years ago now. Laugh-out-loud funny and taught me so much that others were unwilling or unable to. The highest recommendation I can give this book is that I will be getting a copy for my little brother when his time to grow up comes.

Statistical methods are reviewed for large scale correlation studies, intermediate scale smoothing exercises, and small scale clustering investigations, and the problems of interpretation are discussed. Problems of measuring environmental exposures at different scales are also reviewed. These issues are then related to current practice via a comprehensive set of case studies which include a large correlation study in China, clustering of asthma attacks, the Sellafield-leukemia cluster, environmental clusters of mesothelioma in Turkey, the investigation of disease following the industrial accident at Sevesco, and a multi-source study of cancer incidence around incinerators.

Yukina's Blood Shines Into A Red Dawn.

Itogami Island's a completely artificial wonder that lies somewhere in the pacific ocean. It's temperatures are always hot during the daytime and Demons and Vampires live there. Over 560,000 souls live on this tropical paradise, Including a very special human who goes by the name 'Kojou', Who somehow became the 'Fourth Primogenitor' that has the power to control 12 mighty 'Beast Vassals' at his commands. The 'Lion King Agency' sends a 'Counter Demon Attack Mage' named 'Yukina', To watch his every move and kill him if necessary.

Very interesting characters you will grow to love and hate-

1. Kojou- He was just a normal high school student and then fate stepped in and change his life forever. Kojou lives alone with his sister 'Nagisa'. Sometimes he spends time with his friends 'Yaze' and 'Asagi', Who also go to the same school as Kojou. Never has much money in his wallet. Kojou's the worlds most powerful Vampire.

2. Yukina- She's a Sword Shaman Counter Attack Demon Mage from the Lion King Agency. Yukina carries a guitar case on her back that contains a weapon of pure silver called 'Snowdrift Wolf', A spear with many magical secrets that reside in it's heart. Yukina's only 14 years old and now she must watch over Kojou. There's a very special stuffed animal that Yukina likes that will come from a crane game.

3. Natsuki- A very intelligent strong willed beauty. She teaches english at school and loves giving homework to Kojou. Natsuki's also a Counter Demon Attack Mage like Yukina. Natsuki likes to wear black dresses, Even in summer heat. Natsuki does have a past with Kojou and she's one of the few that know he's the Fourth Primogenitor. It's possible that Natsuki has feelings for Kojou. Love the artwork of Natsuki on page 48.

4. Asagi- She's a very bright computer genius and has a part time job. Even though Kojou admits that Asagi and him are just friends, Asagi's actions will show it's more than that. Love the colorful artwork of Asagi in the beginning pages in the book.

5. Nagisa- She's Kojou's little sister and loves to cook and keep their apartment clean all the time. Nagisa goes to the same school with Kojou.
She's also a cheerleader. Nagisa will say something that will catch you off guard later in the story.

6. Yaze- He's friends with Kojou and Asagi. Yaze likes music and always wears headphones and has a black crow at his side for some reason.

7. Eustach- He's a Lotharingia Armed Apostle who wields a brutal sharp battle ax. Eustach's on a quest to bring back a very important item that might lead him to do something that will be unforgivable and be the cause of death on a massive scale.

This novel was very well written with great artwork to go with it. You will have a hard time putting this book down once you start to read. I really like all the different kinds of blue on the front cover with Yukina. Pages 153 and 154 were just brilliant to read, Very expressive in detail.

If you like the show you will like it. Harem building with some ecchi and a relatively clueless main character. That said he's not Infinite Stratos bad, and the plot is actually pretty decent.

About the Author
Martin Hopkinson APMP is a Principal Consultant with QinetiQ, specialising in risk management and project governance. Martin has led the risk management process on several multi-billion pound projects and is lead developer for the Risk Maturity Model. Martin is co-author of the Association for Project Management's Project Risk Analysis and Management (PRAM) Guide and led the group that produced the APM's guide Prioritising Project Risks. As a member of the APM's Governance of Project Management SIG, he was on the editing committee for the APM's guide Directing Change. On behalf of the SIG he sponsored Co-Directing Change - a guide to the governance of multi-owned projects and Sponsoring Change - a guide to the governance aspects of project sponsorship.

Introduction to the Book

I strongly recommend reading carefully the introduction of this book. The author explains, very clearly, what is the purpose of the book that addresses an important need: "where an organization is in terms of Risk Management Maturity". The introduction gives the reader a couple of examples regarding the results an organization can obtain through the Risk Assessment Maturity Model.

Overview of Book's Structure

This book is organized, very clearly and in a simple and easy way to read, in two parts:

* Introduction to the Project Risk Maturity Model
* Guide to the Project Risk Maturity Model

It has five chapters in the Introduction part and six chapters in the second part of the book. It also uses a lot of tables and figures with examples that are very useful to understand the content of the book. This book can facilitate assessors and organizations to figure out where they are in terms of Risk Management process implementation.

The structure of the book is easy to follow, and add many real examples that helps the reader to understand the main points the book deal with.

Highlights: What I liked!

I liked the graphics that are very clear and understandable. Graphics are fundamental to understand what to do and how to do it regarding Risk Management Maturity.

I liked the examples and case studies, and also the recommendations provided by the author.

I liked the CD included, because readers will have a tool to use (tangible things and added value).

Shortfalls: What was Missing!

The book is great but a little bit serious. Probably some funny story, I'm sure the author knows, would be fantastic if were added. In any case the author did a great job.

A good book

I got hold of this book to have a look at the material on the risk maturity model, but what I gained from it was something different.

For me the maturity model assessment questions and summaries are not as useful as the author's discussion of good and bad practices, and how they should be scored. There's an excellent example of multi-pass project modelling/analysis in chapter 3 and I cheered inwardly as he explained how common but flawed practices should be scored.

Many assessment frameworks are let down by rather vague questions that require rather subjective answers. The guidance in this book goes a long way to solving that problem for the assessment framework presented.
