Chapters 18-21 were not included in the 'Answer Key' page 205 (back of the book). This would have been helpful as the material covered included Law of Sines & Cosines, Vector & Equilibrium, Conics, Parametric Equations, and Polar Coordinates. I couldn't find any help with this dilemma online with McGraw-Hill either. RFL

Limited Calculus

I thought this book would go into details about calculus but it was really limited. It only had derivatives and intregals (and the easy ones of them, it didn't expand the problems or had complicated ones). There were exampples but they only showed step by step equations without explaining anything. It was a disappointment and I still stuggled with derivatives and intregals.

About the Author
Born in Edinburgh in 1906, the son of the city's Director of Education, John Innes Mackintosh Stewart wrote a highly successful series of mystery stories under the pseudonym Michael Innes. Innes was educated at Oriel College, Oxford, where he was presented with the Matthew Arnold Memorial Prize and named a Bishop Frazer's scholar. After graduation he went to Vienna, to study Freudian psychoanalysis for a year and following his first book, an edition of Florio's translation of Montaigne, was offered a lectureship at the University of Leeds. In 1932 he married Margaret Hardwick, a doctor, and they subsequently had five children including Angus, also a novelist. The year 1936 saw Innes as Professor of English at the University of Adelaide, during which tenure he wrote his first mystery story, 'Death at the President's Lodging'. With his second, 'Hamlet Revenge', Innes firmly established his reputation as a highly entertaining and cultivated writer. After the end of World War II, Innes returned to the UK and spent two years at Queen's University, Belfast where in 1949 he wrote the 'Journeying Boy', a novel notable for the richly comedic use of an Irish setting. He then settled down as a Reader in English Literature at Christ Church, Oxford, from which he retired in 1973. His most famous character is 'John Appleby', who inspired a penchant for donnish detective fiction that lasts to this day. Innes's other well-known character is 'Honeybath', the painter and rather reluctant detective, who first appeared in 1975 in 'The Mysterious Commission'. The last novel, 'Appleby and the Ospreys', was published in 1986, some eight years before his death in 1994. 'A master - he constructs a plot that twists and turns like an electric eel: it gives you shock upon shock and you cannot let go.' - Times Literary Supplement.

A lot of fun

I really enjoyed this book. Michael Innes plays with words throughout this enjoyable mystery. I couldn't put it down. If you enjoy British mysteries, I highly recommend this one.

More farce than bloodshed

Sir John Appleby, lately retired from Scotland Yard is tapped to give a speech at a mystery writers' dinner club in London, the 'Diner Dupin,' at which he is briefly introduced to Priscilla Pringle, author of such titles as "Poison at the Parsonage" and "Revenge at the Rectory." Miss Pringle's friend, a romance author attempts to get Priscilla to tell Sir John of a disturbing incident on the train into London, but Miss Pringle shies off. Appleby is left with only a confused memory of the meeting:

"'The magenta one was anxious that the salmon-pink one should tell me some interesting anecdote.' Appleby just perceptibly hesitated. 'There was to be a railway journey in it, and a retired soldier. But the salmon-pink one rather shut the other one up.'"

Little does Appleby know that he will encounter Miss Pringle and her mysterious retired soldier, deep in darkest Wiltshire, in a case involving blackmail, various unsavoury goings-on, and possibly even murder.

All of Michael Innes' Appleby mysteries abound with eccentric (although highly literate) characters and some of the novels, such as "Appleby's Answer" tend more toward farce than bloodshed. This author takes stock characters from the British mystery genre and twists them just a bit out of true: the horse-crazy country gentry; the genteel, middle-aged authoress of shocking mysteries; and a couple of British school boys, who could have been plucked from "Lord of the Flies."

Appleby's long-suffering wife, Judith makes fun of her husband's propensity to involve himself in the criminal affairs of mere acquaintances:

"'John's answers to such problems are invariably correct. It was a saying, as a matter of fact, at Scotland Yard.' Outrageous invention was occasionally one of Judith's amusements. '"Appleby's Answer," they used to say. It became proverbial.'"

Michael Innes (John Innes Mackintosh Stewart) was born in Edinburgh, educated at Oxford, and taught English in universities all over the world. His scholarly career includes works on Rudyard Kipling and Joseph Conrad, but he is better known as the creator of Inspector John Appleby, whose exploits inspired a lasting vogue for literary (and literate) mysteries.

The Best Services Marketing Book Out There--and 2016 Current to Boot!

Personally, I think this is the best services marketing book out there. The 2016 edition is particularly excellent because so much has changed in the services landscape between now and any of the earlier published books by any authors. I think services marketing is in the tier of digital/social media marketing in its need to be taught with texts and readings absolutely current and timely. Additionally, I see almost everything as a service exchange--and this book does a wonderful job of delineating traditional service industries, incorporating and explaining ones newly perceived as services (e.g. software as a service), it melds some tenets of service dominant logic with a classic view, and it lays out the modern landscape of services. It gets into deep theoretical concepts without jargon. The author of this edition and his late co-author (Lovelace) of the former editions are well-cited scholars in the services marketing field. Lovelace's groundwork from the earlier editions is still here in Wirtz's updated edition. Their theoretical conceptualizations are given in a down-to-Earth manner, along with examples of theoretical advances from many other scholars. At the same time the text clearly shows how these insights can be incorporated into a managerial toolkit for real change in a service culture top-down and bottom-up. I am excited to impart this view of services marketing to the next generation of MBAs. This edition is with World Scientific Publishers. In an agreement with the author, they agreed to a low price for the US of the Kindle version and also the softcover is available at a price that is much lower than that of other text books. As marketers we realize that low price can influence quality perception. In this case it should influence SERVICE perception. The text is excellent, by leading minds in the services field, there are cases galore, it's great reading, and a full suite of instructor resources is available. It's written in a manner that allows each chapter to stand alone, so a course can be taught in order of the concepts you choose. I used this book to learn services marketing in the first place, and now I'm using it as a professor to teach it. I recommend it enthusiastically. I did not receive remuneration of any kind for this review, nor for adopting the text. I bought the text myself for myself and value it highly. As a final note, this book in Kindle and soft cover is a wonderfully low price point for students. That is a great example of a services marketing move by the publishers and author from my standpoint as a professor. Students who have a good textbook from which to read make class much better, and many more students buy the book when it's affordable. Also, considering my class is a service to my students in the new services landscape way of thinking of higher education, it's win-win services marketing all around. I find this a great object lesson. As an addendum, the author and publishing staff are available by email and very responsive. Excellent textbook and service experience all around. I recommend this highly as both a student and professor of services marketing.

An essential tool for small business owners like me to grow their business profitably

This practical guide by Jochen Wirtz gives me the specific advice and tools I need to build my business profitably. I receive so many quick fix marketing and advertising offers from businesses who say they can help me build my business, but none of them explain the simple truth this guide does. The simple truth I’ve learned from this book is that marketing or advertising campaigns won’t work unless I get the basics right. The basics that are clearly explained in detail in this book. I find the examples of how successful companies have used this guide really useful too as I can picture how I can incorporate what they’ve done into my business. I find the best approach for me to apply this strategy to my business is to read a section each week (or two), rather than reading straight through in one session, and then applying what I’ve learned in that week. This way I find that I am able to make step-by-step manageable changes while I build my business.

Decently written book on the subject. More of this type of teaching needs to be available to the body. Excellent resource for Biblical / Scriptural basis for prophetic worship ministers. For those who do not understand their calling to minister to the Lord in worship so that the body is blessed, this will be of help and a service.

This is my second year with the "Your Best Year" workbook and Lisa has wowed me once again! I have a life coaching business that I get most of my clients online through my website. I followed the amazing workbook last year and it really helped me to meet my business and personal goals. I love how Lisa gives you examples of how the workbook should be filled out to help you along in your journey. I have started working on MBY2017 and I can't wait to see how it helps to propel me forward in my business and personal life. I would totally recommend this workbook to anyone who owns their own business or has been thinking about starting an online business. You will ROCK it with this book by your side!

This book is IT for me...

I am about a year into a tiny, product-based side business that has unexpectedly turned into something that I want to have earn a significant portion of my yearly income. But since the get-go, I have been in reactive mode, flying by the seat of my pants, and without a clear plan of attack - which, by pure luck, has worked for me up until this point. But right now, I’m at a critical crossroad and I know that if I don’t choose the right path, all of the time and money I’ve invested up to this point will be wasted, and I’ll lose the customer base and all of the momentum I’ve hustled to build so far.

I’m a “maker”, and perfectly happy to sit in my studio and make what I make. It’s hard for me to put myself out there, to market myself and my goods and ask for the sale, but it’s even harder for me to come up with a proactive, forward-thinking strategy to get me there.

I stumbled across Lisa’s blog earlier this year and her voice and planning tips really resonated with me as a creative entrepreneur, so getting her Your Best Year 2017 workbook was a no-brainer for me. Without hesitation, I can easily say that this book is going to be THE key to bringing my business to the next level this coming calendar year.

Just as a reference: I’m someone who buys entrepreneurial and small-business books often, but there is not ONE that I have been able to read cover-to-cover. Most of the books I’ve seen aren’t geared to very small, one-woman creative businesses like mine, and as a result so much of what’s out there doesn’t apply to me. It’s left me frustrated and overwhelmed, and without any advice or tips that I can relate to.

YBY2017 is a breath of fresh air. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for - a workbook that will guide me through the planning and strategies for what I want to achieve next year, with actionable (I cannot stress how important this word is to me enough) steps to get there. No general, way-above-my-head business philosophies meant for companies that don’t look a thing like mine - but rather a clearly-laid out plan of steps and stages to get you focused and productive, delivered in a voice that’s firm but friendly.

If you are an Etsy seller, a freelancer, a maker, a crafter - any type of creative entrepreneur - this workbook is a must-have. I highly recommend it, and I feel lucky to have stumbled upon Lisa’s expertise at a time when I needed it most.
