I BUTTERFLYING LIVED IT!
By Sarah
I am not really one to post a review. This is actually only the second one I have ever done. And I read A LOT! As an avid reader, I know what I like and what I don't. I need a happy ending. I need likable characters. I need humor. I read for pure joy and entertainment. If that entertainment includes tears I am ok with that. I am ok with with tension and sadness as long as there are lighthearted moments thrown in. This is what Colleen Hoover does so well. The thing I do NOT like in books is a love triangle. I loathe them. They make me anxious. It usually cheapens the integrity of all involved. So how has Colleen Hoover made me in love with this book?! I am not going to go into plot. But the characters are each involved in relationships when they meet. Their foundation is built on friendship and a mutual interest in music. I did love the music aspect by the way. Ridge is amazing and caring and perfect. Sydney is funny and selfless and is a genuinely nice person. The other characters are likable and add humor and depth to the story. (Except Hunter and Tori) I stayed up way too late because I could not go to bed without closure. That is a sign of a good book. I was in a huge book slump and everything I was reading was running together and I felt I was reading the same story over and over. Thank you Colleen Hoover for pulling me out of the slump.

Beautifully executed.
By Adrienne
I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was to be given an opportunity to review Maybe Someday before it's release. But I had so many other books lined up that I had to keep putting it off. Till yesterday at least. Yesterday I decided was going to be the day. I sat down thinking I would start it and hopefully finish it today or tomorrow. That didn't happen.
I stayed up all night. I couldn't put it down. The time flew by and before I knew it, it was 6am and I was sobbing.
I won't lie and say I never cry reading because I do. I think we all do. However, there are very few books that make me cry several times and even fewer that cause me to break down. Colleen Hoover ALWAYS makes me break down. I think I love her and hate her for it. She has this unique ability, that I'm convinced very few people possess, to stab you in the heart with words. Words that she writes in such a way, that they not only stab you, they dig in and twist and turn. They get so far into your heart that you can't breathe because it hurts. You sit there trying to get the words out of your heart. You put the story down. You get up and pace. You take a drink of water. Anything to quell the onslaught of emotional distress these words cause you. But you can't. You can't because Colleen's words aren't poison that you want out of your body. They're words that speak to on our most basic level, they're words of love, friendship, compassion, trust. They're words of endearment, longing, passion, and faith. They're words that every one of us wants no needs to hear in our lifetime. They're words that leave you breathless. They're words that leaving you a sobbing mess on your couch.
I'm not going to reveal any major spoilers however this next part is a little revealing. So if you want to read the story blind then don't read any further. It won't really ruin the story for you.
This story, wow this story, that Colleen tells will make you believe something that many of us probably think is impossible. That one person can truly and completely love two people at the same time. That our souls are compatible with more than one person. It really makes you stop and think. Can I love, like love love more than one person? Is it true love, not infatuation or obligation? Can my soul mate with two people? Colleen explores all of this with Ridge. You see Ridge has a girlfriend and it's no secret. Maggie is a beautiful, intelligent person. Someone everyone likes, even Sydney. So even though it's music and friendship that bring Ridge and Sydney together, it's also that same music that makes them fall in love. They fight it every step of the way though, neither of them wanting to hurt each other, or more importantly, Maggie. Some lines are innocently crossed and some are blurred. But at the end of the day decisions have to be made. Ridge also has a secret. A secret that changes everything. It sounds cliche I know but it really does change everything. It still hurts my heart to think about it. The implications of this secret, the way I was undecided about what I thought I wanted to happen, it's just so emotional and even heartbreaking.
There's an element to this story that I haven't touched upon. An element I can't divulge to you, however I need to discuss it in some way. Maybe one of the reasons I love this book so much, isn't because the music, even though it's fantastic! It isn't because of the sweet flirting between Ridge and Sydney. It isn't because of the hilarious pranks the characters pull on each other. It's because Colleen shows us there's another way to love a person. There's another level to connect on not just sexually and not just as friends. She takes the term soul mate to a whole different level. It's about knowing there has to be some higher power at work because how else could you FEEL another person without having to touch them? How can you be so in tune to the other person that your hearts beat in tandem? This love story is on a whole new level, and explored in a way I never could have imagined.
I never thought I would love a book more than Hopeless. I honestly never thought someone would knock Dean Holder off the pedestal I so proudly put him on. I just never in a million years anticipated Ridge Lawson.
Reading Maybe Someday, while listening an original soundtrack created by Griffin Peterson, takes reading an eBook to whole other level. The music is so perfect, it's so much a part of the story that you HAVE to listen to it. It's such a creative way to bring together two artistic outlets, allowing the readers and music lovers to blend their stories together. Music is such a powerful way to communicate, reaching into our bodies making us feel the words being said. Much like a writer has the ability to make us cry, music has the same ability and yet reaches us on a different level. The songs in this book are so much more than words, so much more than just a simple story. I honestly didn't know much about Griffin musically until I read the book and listen to his songs. His music, his voice add so much more to the story.
Griffin is certainly a talented musician and one to keep an eye on.
